Sri Lanka's markets deserve
institutional-grade research.
So we built it.
For decades, serious financial analysis in Sri Lanka has been locked behind broker desks and fund-management offices — written for insiders, in language built to reassure rather than reveal. InwestOut exists to change that.
What we do
We are an independent equity research and financial analytics platform for the Colombo Stock Exchange. We read the annual reports, the quarterly filings, and the CSE announcements so you don't have to take anyone's word for it.
Every observation we publish points back to a primary source — an exact note number, a page reference, the disclosure itself. We follow the cash, not just the reported profit, because the gap between the two is often where the real story lives.
Our research is verdict-first and numbers-led. We credit genuine strengths before we press on the weaknesses, and we show our work at every step.
Our methodology
📊 Cash flow first
Reported profit can be managed. Cash flow is harder to fake. We start with the statement of cash flows, not the income statement.
📄 Primary sources only
Every claim is cited back to the original CSE filing, annual report note, or regulatory disclosure. No hearsay, no broker summaries.
⚖️ Balanced analysis
We credit genuine strengths before pressing on weaknesses. Good companies with bad disclosures get the same rigour as bad companies.
🔍 Verdict-first writing
Our conclusion comes first. Readers who already know the company can skip straight to the detail that matters to them.
What we don't do
- We do not manage money, hold client funds, or sell you a position.
- We do not issue buy or sell calls or price targets.
- We are not registered with or regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka as an investment adviser.
- Every report is informational and educational — readers are encouraged to do their own research before making any investment decision.
Why it matters
Financial literacy is the foundation of a healthy market, and a healthy market is the foundation of a stronger economy. Our mission is to raise the standard of investment research available to Sri Lankans — at home and across the diaspora — and to give frontier-market investors a window into the CSE they can actually trust.
Think of it as a Bloomberg terminal built for Sri Lanka: rigorous, transparent, and on your side.

The Story Behind InWestOut
It started with 50,000 rupees and a hard lesson.
My journey began in 2017, right after my A-Levels. I was driven by one thing: curiosity. I wanted to build something of my own, to become a founder. I spent that period devouring the stories of the great investors — how they thought, how they did the work, how they consistently beat the market.
So I opened an account on the Colombo Stock Exchange and put in 50,000 rupees as a small retail investor. Within three months, I had lost almost 90% of it. I had no clue what I was doing. I didn't understand the businesses I was buying or how the market actually worked. But that loss taught me more than any win could have.
The market I came back to wasn't broken. It was just misunderstood. The more I studied global markets, the clearer it became that Sri Lanka's market behaves very differently — still young, still maturing. Too many investors here move on news and sentiment alone, with little attention paid to fundamentals: the disclosures, the cash flows, the actual numbers behind a company.
I watched this play out through some of the hardest years our market has ever faced: the Easter attacks, COVID-19, and the 2022 sovereign default. And that's exactly where I learned the lesson that shaped everything since — opportunity doesn't appear when the screen is green. It appears when the screen is red. Understanding why a price moves, instead of reacting to that it moved, changes everything.

From losing money alone to building literacy for everyone.
I started by helping my friends — walking them through how to actually read a company, not just chase a tip. I also raised the issues I was seeing directly with the Colombo Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Sometimes I got a response. Sometimes I didn't. But it convinced me that real change had to start with awareness.
So I began sharing what I knew on social media, under DamithInvest — and what started as a handful of posts grew into a community of more than 66,000 followers. From there, the vision got bigger: unbiased, fundamentals-first research built purely on company disclosures and the numbers, written for ordinary investors who deserve the same quality of analysis the institutions keep for themselves. That vision became InWestOut.
The experience behind the work.
Straight after my A-Levels, I joined the industry and never stopped learning. I worked at a global financial research firm (formerly Amba) and later at a Boston-based company — gaining real exposure to how both the US and Sri Lankan markets operate from the inside. In 2022, I came to the United States. I went to Wall Street and stood outside it like a kid looking in, and I made myself a promise: that one day my name would mean something in these markets.
I graduated from the University of Moratuwa with a degree in Business Science, focused on data analytics and business analytics. Today I'm pursuing a Professional Science Master's at Rice University in Houston, specialising in environmental analysis, the energy transition, and carbon markets — because my curiosity has never stopped at one market or one exchange.
Where this is going.
Every market I study deepens the same conviction: that financial literacy is the great equaliser. My goal with InWestOut is to take that literacy in Sri Lanka — and across our diaspora — to the next level, and to give every investor the tools, the research, and the understanding to make their own informed decisions.
I started by losing 90% of 50,000 rupees. I'd like no one else to have to learn it that way.
